01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One detail that stands out in Sawagami’s tsukemen is the sweet-and-sour cabbage served alongside the noodles. Between bites of the thick seafood-and-pork-bone dipping broth and the firm, thick house-made noodles, its acidity is said to leave a cleaner finish. You can also add more cabbage to enjoy as a refreshing interlude.

Several diners describe the noodles as satisfyingly chewy, with even a regular serving making for a substantial meal. The large serving has also been described as generous, so it may suit those keen for plenty of noodles; choose the regular size if you would rather keep the portion manageable.

Alongside the standard tsukemen, the menu includes curry tsukemen, spicy tsukemen and pepper-lemon tsukemen. The curry version retains the seafood flavour and offers a different take on the usual bowl. Pepper-lemon and spicy versions are also available; they may appeal if you enjoy a tangy flavour.

Sawagami opens for lunch only and is closed on Saturdays. Orders are placed by purchasing a meal ticket, and dining is inside the restaurant. Check the opening days and bring cash before you go.
